hi everyone!
I have a force 125 1988 cleaned the head getting the head gasket
can some share the tourque sequence for reinstalling the head
im aware it takes 2 stage torque step but I don't understand the spiral motion in regards of the bolts
im a visual person thus a pic would be greatly appreciated
I could take a pic and edit the pic with numbers if requested

also if I read properly it is 1st step is 5#lbs then 20# also after running for a few hours retourque

thanks

Re: powerhead torque

You start with the centermost two bolts on the head, picking one to start at then work to the next one, then to the one above it and the one next to that, then the one below the first two and the one next to that--and so on in a spiral pattern until all bolts have been torqued.

It is analogous to wiping down a decal from the center outward to prevent and remove air. In the case of the head, it evenly smooths compression onto the gasket, preventing a kinked gasket or warping the head.

Here's one where it explains the spiral motion or steps in torquing the cylinder head. Starting from the blue dot and following the arrow creates a spiral track.

Re: powerhead torque

Well, I suppose that it could make a difference--after all, -15 is 85 degrees different from average 70 and 70 is about 70 different from running temp, so you would be looking at aluminum expansion from -15 to say 140. SO, satisfy your wife--BTW: WHY DO YOU HAVE ENGINE PARTS ON THE TABLE? Didn't you think she would get pissy about it? So mount he head on the engine and do not torque it until you get ready to use it. Simple, what?
