powerhead swap

Can anybody tell me if a 78 25 hp powerhead can be used to replace my 77 25 hp powerhead they have very little visible differance the 78 has electric choke both have electric start

for some reason they will not fit , however most 35 hp power head & intake manifold in those years 78\77 will fit

Thanks, durban, how about the foot?....heres my thing 77 has almost no comp and good foot. 78 has good compression and no lower unit can i put the 77 foot on the 78 both are short shaft and look the same bolt pattern and shifter linkage

The lower units do interchange pumping water fine shifts smoothly...thanks

78\7 some legs do interchange & as well will fit some 35hp
