Heya fellas and everyone, I have a 2033 Optimax 135, she has some pinky stuff in the power tilt assembly the motor os horribly rusty and she must have leaky seals, I would lik to replace the whole unit, thre seem to be two wires coming from the motor, and another that connects to the frame outside where the central ram is attached to the leg.. I will try and post pics. So my question is do I order a 2 or 3 wire assembly ? Cheers, Mike

SM shows two wires to the trim and tilt pump motor. Blue for up and green for down.

Mercury parts catalog only shows two wires to the pump motor.

Is your third wire going from one of the motor mounting bolts to the clamp bracket of the engine?
This is a ground wire to keep the PTT assembly at the same voltage potential as the engine/hull to prevent galvanic corrosion. This has nothing to do with the operation of the unit and it'll work without that wire... until it turns into a ball of corrosion.

Gee, the PTT trim unit has 6 heavy stainless bolts holding it to the transom bracket. I do not think it needs a ground wire.

A lot of Mercs did not have trim senders, but if you have one, you should see the body of it inside the transom bracket, and it will move with the trim of the motor. Your third picture shows something on the top of the center trim cylinder. May be the sender.

Look around for PTT units. The prices were $300+ different on different sites, when I bought one some years ago.

Not ground wires but many models and brands use a bonding wire.
