Power trim trouble

First let me say I'm a newbie (both to this forum and boating). I have a 1968 Larson with (what I believe to be a 1969) Mercury 800 Thunderbolt motor. Last evening after a pleasant cruise I "power trimmed" the motor all the way up at the ramp. Shortly thereafter I tried to lower the the trim... And no movement whatsoever. It makes the normal sound but the motor doesn't move an inch. I read online about how one can loosen a screw to release a little pressure to lower the motor... Then to check the relays. However, my motor has duel hydraulics that look like small shock absorbers. Any ideas? THANKS!

First check the manual tilt lock. They look like "dog ears" and are located on each side of the transom bracket. The can easily jam the motor up. I presume you have the trim reservoir in the boat? If so, you may loosen either of the two larger hydraulic hoses, and let the hydraulic oil spray all over the boat, as the motor lowers.

Sounds like your low on hydraulic fluid. I've had the same thing happen to me.

Yes, what Ja31484 said, same thing happened to me. Just added a bit of fluid and works fine now.

Guys - This is an old thread. Please let it sleep and look at the note on top of the page. Thanks.
