We have a 83 Bass Tracker 3 , Not sure of the the year of Motor, It's a 40 HP Johnson Tracker. The Model Number and Serial number of the motor are Mod. #TJ40ELEIA, and the Ser. # is G 03000793. We need a 2 wire Power Trim Relay Box for it, but we are not sure what we need, does anyone know which one we would need? The one that has been on it since we got it seems to be rigged.

Re: Power Trim Relay Box Question

The 1991 40s with trim had the relays on the motor. There is no seperate bax.

Not sure if ours is a 1991 or not but it does have a separate box, the relays are not on the motor itself..

Re: Power Trim Relay Box Question

I'll post one tomm when I can get a good picture of it. We think that it may be a homemade job because it doesn't have any names or anything on it. It is located next to the batteries under the back casting back on the "wall".

Ok finally figured out how to re-size it so I could get it uploaded. the first one is what it looks like when we take it out of the box it was in the second one is with it back it the box that it was in and where it has been mounted. Like I said before we think it may be a homemade job since the box that it is in has nothing to do with power trim it's for something totally different.

Does it work the way it is ? That is stricty home built. The relays and box are supposed to be on the mtr.

It worked last year fine then it quit, paid a guy to fix it and it worked for a couple outings then quit working again and we can't get it to work now at all.

We are not sure if this one will work we found it on a website but they do not offer refunds if it is the wrong one so hoping someone could help us figure it out. the site says to "research well before you buy to make sure it is what you need". It say's it a universal Johnson/Evinrude 2 wire relay harness.

Thanks in advance for any help this is our first boat so we haven't learned everything yet.

If it was myself I'd just repair what you have now. It may be something simple.

Re: Power Trim Relay Box Question

Well to be perfectly honest we tried that, very unsucessfully, I think we may have made things worse... We just didn't know which wires went where and think we got a few mixed up, then couldn't figure out where they went originally. And we don't have a local boat place that is close enough. so if anyone knows which wires go to which prongs and which way the relay is supposed to face and all that I might could try it again...
