Power Trim problems

I have a 1995 Larson 174 I/O with Mercruiser 135. Last weekend (first time on the water this year) a peculiar problem developed--- the power trim button works when lowering the motor, but only the "trailer" button raises it. Weird! Could it be a solenoid (I think there are two- one for up and one for down?) or something in the trim button/switch itself? Any ideas on how to troubleshoot would be appreciated!

Re: Power Trim problems

You may just have a defective or out of adjustment trim limit switch.
Below is a link to the troubleshooting section of the Merc servcie manual for your Alpha I Gen II drive. There are compelete details on troubleshooting your sytem.

http://www.boatfix.com/merc/Servmanl/14/14c1.pdf

Also, here is a link to the full manual, you will probably find a lot of other anwsers as well in it.

http://www.boatfix.com/merc/Servmanl/14/14notice.pdf

Re: Power Trim problems

The trim / tilt wires go BAD LONG before the switches go out. Try adjusting first. The adjusting is easier with 2 people one in boat @ switch and one working the senders. If they are still original I'd lean toward wires.
