I have a 1979 228 Mercruiser. I bought it last fall and I am getting it ready to put in the water. Everything has been gone over and is working well except the trim sender. I traced the problem down to being a corroded through wire at the sender on the out drive. How hard is it to replace this wiring. in looking at it from a novice point of view it will be a b--ch. any suggestions? Thanks David

I had a similar problem and solved it (perhaps temporary) by using paint on wire covereing. If your wires are not broken off it may work. You can buy it in the electrical section of Home Depot. West Marine probably has it. I put several coats on last year and so far so good. Replacing the senders and wires looks to be a somewhat significant undertaking esspecially if you have limited access under your engine at the transom. Good luck

Starbrite liquid electrical tape is a great product.
The trim gauge is usually the first thing to quit working on most I/O
The live without it is the best advice..;)
