Power Tilt/Trim Problem

This past weekend the power tilt/trim stopped working on my 1988 Evinrude 88hp. It stopped working, then began working again and finally stopped working for good. I can hear a single click when I try to move it up or down, but the motor won't run. I checked the battery and it is fine. I think it may be in the wiring, as I have had this problem occasionally in the past and it has repeatedly fixed itself in a matter of seconds/minutes. Any ideas as to what is wrong and how I can fix it? Thanks for your help.

Re: Power Tilt/Trim Problem

Try tapping(lightly) the trim motor with a hammer or large screwdriver brush may be sticking. If that fail checke the connection between the motor and the relays; also open the relay box and check the connections behind the relays. good luck.

Re: Power Tilt/Trim Problem

tapping helps to break free for a little while, eventually may need to rebuild/service the motor if worn. not sure on this particular TT, but on a sterndrive the motor is just like your starter with brushes and springs
