Power Tilt R/R for AQ270?

Is it possible to remove the entire power tilt unit intact from inside the boat? The ram extends outside the boat and has a limiter nut on the end. Currently the unit is not working so have been unable to extend the ram to inspect the limiter nut or attempt to remove.

It appears to be the original unit. It's in a 1972 Chris-Craft XK-22 and the outdrive is a Volvo-Penta Aquamatic (AQ270) I'm trying to source a good, used power tilt unit as a replacement. Are resistors, limiter switch and motor still available to repair the inoperable one?

Thanks!

You have to remove the unit from the inside and the boat needs to be out of the water. There was a conversation on this subject not long ago. The unit is not that difficult to rebuild Some parts are still available, I hope this link works.

Thanks Ken. Sounds like the challenge is getting the ram unstuck which mine is. Will give it the tried and true "purple juice" (ATF/acetone) mix or PB Blaster.

BTW, I admire your taste in classic fiberglass. Our last boat was a 1978 Chris-Craft Lancer 23 Overnighter (#137). It was a freshwater boat out of Detroit and all there but beyond tired so disassembled it and gave it a new interior, paint and total refit, like a new boat w a modified dash, tilt helm and full audio system hidden away. Boy those boats have alot of teak and look great w Epiphanes. Hated to sell it but when the XK-22 came along, well the wife drew the line on "one boat".
