Power Loss

I have a rebuilt 1984 185hp Evinrude. Sometimes after pulling kids on a tube, engine dies at idle. Hard to restart. After starting it starts to die as I increse throttle. I have to gradually get to full throttle. It then runs fine for awhile. I have temperature guage on each cylinder head. No overheating. A friend mentioned maybe a bad coil. Seperate problem, VRO alarm for no oil is constantly sounding(short beeps every second). Rebuilder disconnected system no resevoir. I can't find wiring on engine. I assume part of the old wiring is grounding itself some where.

Your fix is probably allot simpler that you think.

I suspect fuel starvation. Built in fuel tanks have a nasty habit of clogging the vent. To be sure, run the engine on a portable tank.

Otherwise, blow out ALL the vent lines. Remove the "vent" fitting from the fuel tank and clean it with carb cleaner.

think you need to check yr. and hp. sounds to me like you have a dirty/cruddy carb, in need of the link & sinc. and a decarb with seafoam. checking on vro wires.

did a search, should be a tan wire the goes to the vro pump that need's disconnecting. I think, I don't deal with vro's.

Tan alright.....but look on the pump for the wiring harness that comes from it. Follow it and you should come to the amphenol connector (fancy name for rubber connector). If it's still plugged into it's mating connector, take it apart and let it lay.
