Power increase needed for 2004 Harris Kayot Royal Heritage 260 pontoon.

The boat currently has the Honda 50 4-stroke on it. Want to increase power to maybe 130 or so, but concerned about weight of engine & pontoon log size, which i think is 25”.
Would adding a 3rd pontoon ‘center log‘ make sense & is it cost effective & safe?

A 130 is 2 steps up from that 50 weight wise. I'd say your concern is legitimate. The 130's are getting pretty heavy for a conventional pontoon, even w/25" tubes. 28" tubes might be a different story, but generally you don't see those on anything but I/O powered boats. Yamaha and Merc both have 115's that would do a pretty decent job on that boat, and keep the weight comparable to the Honda 90 (under 400 lbs). Personally, I wouldn't go any heavier than something like that.

When you start talking tri-toon conversion, along with a new/bigger motor, you're getting into a pretty heavy duty (expensive!!) project. At some point, you may be further ahead selling this boat and getting one closer to what you are really thinking of (with lifting strakes!). My thought anyway, FWIW. -Al

It's been a while, but i wound up repowering with a new 2022 Yamaha SHO 115 4-stroke motor. Also, from what i found, these SHO's are a little underrated HP wise & it probably has about 125+ hp in reality. Anyway, i LOVE the combination with my pontoon! She scoots just fine now for such a big toon, too. The Honda 50 now lives in FL.
