I picked up this SS160 two years ago. It’s in like new condition. The only thing I think it needs is the convertible top. I’m looking for the fold down convertible top assembly. Anyone out there have one for sale?

Sharp Boat and welcome. I'm not sure you will find anyone that would part with one (they are kinda hard to come by) However there are a lot of companies out there that will custom make one to your specifications. Check with awning and or upholstery companies in your area.

I am new, but also old.

The new thing is me being on this forum with my 1984 Starcraft Islander 19. She too is new, but also old, so we're a good fit. I bought her two days ago in Calgary, where she has been since 2008, but before that she was in Pontiac, Michigan.

She has a Penta AQ145a tied to a 280 leg. I have never owned anything with a leg before. Well, except animals and furniture that is. So I have a lot to learn. Bought from a guy who obviously loved and cared for her, and spent a bunch of money he could never hope to recoup. Guess it's my turn now.

She is on a good trailer, with a pretty new Tohatsu 9.8 4 stroke kicker, and has a pretty practical-looking bimini top. She has been self-isolating during Covid, so idled a little rough when we started her. I'll try some new gas and maybe plugs to see if that clears her throat. She is heading up to Stuart Lake, British Columbia in a couple of weeks to see if we can salvage a little of this season. Here are some pictures:

Very interesting, thanks Watermann. I shall have to research the difference between V5 and V hulls. I did a HIN search last night and it was apparently built in June of '83. Serial number in the HIN is said to be K9410.

My in-laws got a new (to them) boat a few weeks ago, so we were first in line for their previous bot. 1987 SS201 with the 4.3/175. Didn’t plan it, but I think it goes pretty well with my truck.

Do you still have the badges in your Islander? This is my 78 model year that was built in 77, a 5 year run with yours being the last. Your year they did away with the port side fuel filler but the extra long bottom strake is the biggest giveaway for the V5 models.

No, I don't have any badges like that.But you can make out what looks like the original paint or decal SEACRAFT on each side, along with decorative striping in a triple hockey-sstick like shape. I have seen this on pictures of later Islanders. The Coastguard plate, shown below, states that it is an SF- 191V. Looks like it might be a true intermediate model, with V and V5 features, do you think? Tell me if you woukd like other pictures. Interesting about the long lower strake.

Yes yours is the transition year for sure with the new designation, they stopped using the extended strake in subsequent years and about the only V5 features that remained were smooth sides, OB splashwell design and decking layout. My pic above you can see the port side fuel filler that was deleted from their future boats. Otherwise your year has the identical V5 hull design.
My 1979 18' SS V5, these deep chunky hulls perform and look great.

There's one other variant too that has half lap sides and half smooth side in the mid 80s that I see mostly in the SuperSport.

We are very much looking forward to seeing how the Islander deals with the temper tantrums that Stuart Lake can suddenly throw.

In the meantime, new batteries and spark plugs today and see how she starts and runs.

My second Starcraft this summer. Haven’t even splashed the first but it was an even trade for a motorcycle.

It’s a 1975 express model with an OMC 165hp stringer. Definitely not my first choice for propulsion. If it doesn’t work I’ll find a donor boat with a Mercruiser or put on a bracket and run an outboard and free up some interior real estate. The bike I’m trading set me back a total of about $380. I think it’s fair.

The Chieftain is home!! It has part of the original canopy with it.

anyone with a chieftain express have the full enclosure? I’d like to see how the side curtains fit. On this it looks like the top of the side curtains would have a thick piping that slides into a channel on the hardtop then snaps to the side windows, zips to the main canopy and snap onto the top of the gun whales.

1971 15´ Sprint and 1971 Mercury 50. Runs like a charm. She is in desperate need of a new windshield (and could use a new transom). I’ve been too chicken to do either.
