Hi.
I've started my 35HP. motor by pull-rope (starter faulty) Motor sounds very good, pumping water strong.Thank you for your advice up to date.
I now have another issue. I bought this motor from a retired gentleman. Everything is legitimate, the problem is, he no longer has any of the original documents. In Portugal, I've just discovered that by Portuguese law, the motor must have the original documents for me to be able to registered it, which I need to do here before I can use it on my boat. In Cape Town South Africa, where I come from, all we needed was a receipt. That does not apply here. Unless I get the necessary documentation I won't be able to use this motor on my boat,Any suggestions how I can go about solving this problem?

Can you still get a hold of the seller you bought it from and get a bill of sale at least. Maybe he still knows the person he bought it from. Also, what make is the outboard? Contact the manufacturer with the model and serial number and they may be able to help you trace it. Here in Texas, USA you can get a bonded title on somethings if you make every effort to contact the last registered owner via certified mail, then get a bond, fill out a ton of paperwork, and then finally the title if everything works out. It's not as simple as going to get a lost title, like all the sellers would like you to think. It is expensive and a hassle but can be done

Please guys;

Unless you have any help to offer Carlos about Portuguese documentation, don't clog up the thread with stateside methods. It doesn't help the poor guy. Thanks.

Carlos, do you know what exact documentation is needed in Portugal? I can only suggest you contact the Portuguese authorities and explain the situation to see if there is a way around the problem. It may be a simple solution or very complicated. Good luck.

agree... honestly a boating forum full of 99.9% Americans will be of little to no help on legal matters in Portugal....

Whatever your local authority who handles registration will be where you need to start.... Ask them what you need to do and who you need to see.
