Went to Port Colborne Ont. on fri. 8/3 for their canal Days. Left Dunkirk Ny at about 6:30 pm with two other vessels. Fishermen were saying 3-5s on the lake so I figured 1-3s :D (even tho we'd had a stiff wind all day). Were in 3 footers just outside the breakwall & continued to grow the further out we got until we were in 4-6 to 5-7 with the occasional rogue 8-9:eek: footer thrown in for good measure. Wife & son were not impressed (to say the least). Made the 26 mile trip in about 1 1/2 hrs. with all 3 of us getting in safely. Had a very nice weekend. They always put on an excellent show over there. Left sunday instead of Mon. to come home as the weather report wasn't looking too good. Was def. a good call, we had a nice ride home with just a little chop. Talked to others from my dock who came home today & they had 3-5s or more all the way back.

btw, nice site w/lots of good info.

Re: Port Colborne Canal DAys

We also went up there. From Grand Island. We started sat. morning at 7:30. Got to the lighthouse at pt. Abino(sp.) at 8:30 and swam for 4 hrs! The water was so calm, the 5 boats with us just stayed in a small circle and never moved. When we left mon. morning, we were in 1-2 all the way home.

This past weekend however, was a different story! Saturday was windy with 2-3 footers, and the trip home on Monday was 4-6 with a few big 8-9's W/ white caps put in for good measure. Had a blast both times though.
