Re: Pontoons on the Erie canal

Mr Crabbs,
I some what in same situation. I also have a 20 PT, an (Avalon w/50 Yamaha 4 stroke). I was looking into building a front enclosure. Got some idea not sure if they will work. Also thought about bringing camping gear and staying at state parks. I know you camp over at some of the locks. Trying to keep the cost to a min. On the canal it is mostly 10 mph. If have a couple of bikes you get around in the towns easily.

I wanted to hear what other people wanted to do. Mr Crabbs is from SW Ohio, and I think He and his mate are planning for a week. I was hoping to do several trips during the summer. With two parts of the canal within 20 miles, it makes easy for me. I ordered the Canal guide from NYS. It should help in answering questions, and I can info. share with others. Look up (Tug 44) on the net, lots of info. and great pictures. How is your motor work coming?

If we can manage it, we'll most likely be overlapping the groups plans. No reason to drive that far just for a long weekend. There is a lot to see too.

Right now we are booked (at this point anyway) until mid July. Our summer ends the first full week of August.

Hey Guys, and Girls..

I just located another website that has a lot of useful information on the canal. Stuff like travel distance and average times including lock passage. That would be a great help to you Mr Crabbs to help locate your stops.

Also that (tug 44) site, was very well done by the owner of Tug 44. He traveled the whole system. (I'm jealous) Well maybe someday. A dollar and a dream.
