I bought a tandem axle trailer that had a 20'+ striper boat (150hp)on with 5 leaf springs (26"). I'm wanting to replace the springs, but I'm sure my pontoon (18' and 25hp now, wanting to go to larger motor like 75hp) is much lighter. Any recomendation on springs. Thinking 4 leaf should be fine.

pontoon trailers are different than v-hull trailers

you need either a scissor or bunk trailer for the pontoon. and majority of the bunk trailers for pointoons have torsion axles.

also, your 18' pontoon would not be rated for a 75hp motor

So you are converting this trailer to be used with a pontoon boat?

The 5 leaf get you #2,850
The 4 leaf gets you #2,350

It's not always that simple..... using the same theory (#3,500 axle x 2), I replaced the broken 5 leaf spring(s) with 4 leaf springs.

Couldn't get the equalizers to work properly unless I raised the tongue significantly beyond where it's been for the past 15 years.

Called my trailer manufacturer. Was advised the trailer was setup to utilize #2,850 springs. Swapped out springs, problem solved.

Yes I already have the trailer and all the bunk brackets to convert it.
As for my pontoon it's an 18'x 10' wide custom work boat. So there's no capacity or rating on it. I'm pretty sure it will handle 75 hp.
