are all pontoons compartmentalized , how would you test for water intrusion and how level should the toons sit in the lake .sorry for all the questions,.just trying to learn something about them,,, now!!!!:joyous:
No, they are not all compartmentalized. How level they sit in the water will depend on the amount of weight in the back. Variables might include floor plan, size of engine, size of gas tank, etc. Regarding water intrusion, if the boat is level side to side you should be good to go, BUT, a careful inspection of the bottom of both pontoons is always part of a good pre-purchase plan!
A couple of ways to check for water in the tubes Shake it good on the trailer and listen for sloshing waiter.
Feel the tubes near the top then feel bottom area. need to be in the shade or shaded side of the boat.
If there is water it should be cooler at the bottom.
Keeping in mind the layout etc the stern would normally be about 1/2 submerged.
ahicks and steelespike thank you very much for your responce side to side it is level and about half maybe a little more at stern. :embarassed: pre-buy inspection pretty much non exesistant bought at marina just hearing motor run. however upon my son and myself getting it home we found we had 6 to 8 in of mussels attached to pontoons.thanks again for your help
If they are zebra mussels, make sure they are not covering the intakes on the motor. Actually, regardless of what type of mussel they are, make sure they are not covering the intakes on the motor.
