Re: Pontoon does not move in reverse but prop spins

The shifter is on the side of the motor. I put the control in neutral, removed the cable from the shifter on the motor, shifted it through all the gears and back to neutral, then adjusted the nut on the cable so it would go back on the shifter without the shifter being moved at all. When I go from neutral to forward everything shifts fine, but when i go from neutral to reverse it doesnt have the oomph to push the shifter on the motor back into the reverse position. Even when i pull the control arm all the way back it wont push the shift lever all the way to the reverse position.

as far as shift assist, I have no idea if it has it or not. I may have wrongly assumed it didnt.

Whats baffling is I cant find that motor. that year 1976 went from 85HP right up to 200HP it shows no 115HP.On the top of the engine 1/3 the way forward from the spark plugs, looking from the rear and abit right of center there is a welch plug.(aluminum circle about the size of a 25 cent piece) It will be stamped with the model and ser.# check it and see if it matches the tag number you make reference to.When you find it please post that number.
I dont know?but I have read that some European countries had different motor model and HP than we here in the USA
The 85 and 200 1976 both show oil pumps in the gear case, without your motor running if it is simluar to these it will shift hard if at all

Ok i looked for the welch plug but i didnt find anything. where is it in relation to the flywheel? But GOOD NEWS i actually got the muffs on her and fired it up and shifted and went in reverse neutral and forward!!!!!! The prop was spinning great so hopefully hopefully that has it fixed. Thanks Everyone for your help. I have some other questions so I will be starting some new threads in the future. Thanks Again
