Polishing with metal flake

There is another thread going about polishing a boat and removing oxidation, which has been helpful.

However, there are some spots on my boat where it appears striping done in metal flake is very close to the surface and in some spots worn down to the under coat. What's the best way to clean those areas up? Should I spray a clear coat over the entire boat?

Re: Polishing with metal flake

I saw a bassboat a few years back that had been sprayed (on top deck rails) with multiple coats of clear coat. It looked good and there were spots were it was dull inside the clearcoat but, the clearcoat shined.

I can not attest to how long it will last. doing your entire boat will be alot of work. (complete removal of all previos wax and surface prep) Not to mention masking.... I my experience I usually see dull top deck rails from sun and wear. Normally the sides of a boat can be buffed back to life.

My sides look great, it's just areas on the top rails. For now it probably is fine, I just wonder how it'll look in a few more years.
