Polishing/waxing help

I have just gone over my boat hull using 3M rubbing compound, and now I'm in a quandary. A friend has told me I now need to go over the whole thing again with a polish before waxing....
Is he right?

Agreed...I just finished using the 3M rubbing compound and it looked awesome...I started the Finesse It polishing compound and for all the extra work I really couldnt see the difference. If your rubbing compound didnt leave any swirl marks that you can see I'd just wax it and be done with it.

There are two different types of polishes. A pure polish that just puts oils back into the gel coat and a polish that has abrasives in it. If the gel coat looks great and doesnt appear to have any swirls in it then you can either apply a pure polish to help keep it from oxidizing or just wax it. Its up to you.
