Hey guys I got a 92 ford 302 carb, and I put a pmgr starter on it, now the motor turns over so fast that it sprays fuel out of the carb and floods it self and wont run. Put the old derect drive starter back on and it works fine again, whats the problem? ThNk you

The starter isn't the problem. Your carb needs rebuilt. Either the float is sunk or stuck and the needle isn't closing properly.

When it does start, how does the motor run?

Thing runs amazing! Idles perfect at about 750 to 800 shifts smooth into gear no hesitation and runs right up to 50 mph like nothing. Only issue has been the starter drawing to mich much power

does the starter spin the same direction as the old one?

Yeah , I bet the new starter is spinning opposite the old one.

hook the old one back up and watch the direction of flywheel as somone cranks it over.

If that were true, you wouldn't be able to "push-start" a car because doing so would "turn the engine over too fast"

I would bet your new starter is turning the wrong way.....

The starter may be turning backwards, but why would it cause fuel to be sprayed 6" out of the carb?

Engine turning backwards would have a piston going up with the exhaust valve closed and intake valve(s) open. That would probably cause an airflow in the wrong direction.

Possibly. I need to run Bondo's avatar backwards. :D
