Hi guys, First timer to forums, am looking for suggestions/advice. Have a 2013 Glastron GT-180 w/ 150hp outboard. Boat only has 31hrs on the clock so its relatively new, and therefore still being treated like a brand new toy. Boat is mostly used to drag the kids around on boards/tubes/ski's, but I will be making a few changes to it as I go so I can do some Recreational fishing...... One of my plans it to get some proper Rod holders Plumbed into the rear of the boat, but need advice on whether this is a very bad idea, or will work without any issue etc.

Rexxy.

you are refering to the drains. if so, I found it much easier to plug the rod holder drains. then again, I kept my last boats in the garage.

It depends if you are referring to installing the holders or just the drains on them. You will need clearance beneath the gunnels for installing them, and depending on the thickness of the glass, you may need backers on the inside. If its just the drains, either let them drain to where ever,if it wont drain into the cabin or anywhere that will cause problems. If it does, drain them to the bilge, its going to get wet anyway when it rains.

I avoided putting rod holders in my boat for a long time... Once I bit the bullet and actually drilled the holes, never looked back. To stop water enter into the side pockets that the holder poke down into, I use a simple bath plug....

You could always get some "Ranger style handrails" and get rail mount rod holders,.........

new boat owners likely install the most cosmetically pleasing rod holders on the market,, tracks, holes with plugs.. Ive got a glass cuddy, I installed a Cannon track for downrigger application and installed two flush mount Scotty "rocket launcher" types.. the rod holder pops on and off with ease, adjustable to many angles, the mounts only stand up about 2 inches, next to the rear hand rails, they are lower than the rear hand rails so not to interfere with snap cover...Im pleased with it...

Not a bad idea. If you are thinking of installing flush mount holders, take a look at this.

Or something like this if you have the space , I have the caped ones where the holder is installed over any bilge/compartment to prevent water entry when running or in foul weather. http://www.iboats.com/Seachoice-Sta...20296395--**********.870175840--view_id.21249

since these are at an anglle - make sure you have clearance inside when you mount. I didn't factor that in on one of mine and spend some time grinding it a bit to get it to fit.

then use these with tubing to your bilge

Recommend "caps" over plumbing to bilge. Many stories of pumping gas into rod holders.

A cap at least gives you a chance ;)
