plug fouling

It's me again. I'm getting ready for the spring fishing season and took took my 50 hp force out to check it on the lake. When I went to throttle up, it seemed to do just fine, but never seemed to plane out and run as fast as sit should (no top end). Nothing has really changed from before. Starts good, runs okay at idle, but again, won't push the boat as fast as it should. I pulled the sspark plugs and the bottom one seems to be oil fouled, but cleaned up pretty easy. Top plug is in A-1 condition. Is this ignition in bottom cylinder, or carb adjustment? Compression when I bought it last fall was 150 in both cylinders. I bought the motor as a 1988, but it may be 1989 instead. Help, please?

Make sure it is running on both cyl. Some times the plugs just wont clean up

I would be more worried about the plug that looks clean. You might want to do a compression test on your motor. Slightly oily plugs are good for two stroke motors. Clean plug could mean water is getting into that cylinder and steam cleaning it.

Re: plug fouling

Plugs shouldn't last more than 80 hours under prime conditions on this motor. I was lucky to get 40 from mine, but then, I used to idle more than plane due to manatee zones.<br />It also required decarbing after each run.

Re: plug fouling

Thanks for the input guys. I checked the water (by hand) that was coming out of the two pee holes int he back. It was very warm, but not scalding hot like I have heard others describe happens when you are getting water in a cylinder. I also decarbed it yesterday with seafoam (pretty neat trick)and adjusted the air-fuel on the carb. Keeping my fingers crossed. I'm going to try it out on Sunday and see what happens.

Re: plug fouling

Try reversing the plugs before you go out. Put the dirty one in the clean slot and the clean one in the dirty slot. Run the motor as you would and when you are done check to see if the the dirty plug got clean and the clean one got dirty.

I thought about that. Good idea, eurolarva. Now if it will just quit raining.

Re: plug fouling

I ran the dcarb procedure on the motor yesterday. Didn't get to the lake today, raining all day. I pulled the plugs out after decarb. They look pretty much alike as far as deposits go (not much). turned motor by hand until I could look at the top of each piston with flashlight. They look identical. Don't think there is water getting in top cylinder. Will keep an eye on it and do compression check asasp.
