hi all, ive had my 16 foot cjr fishing boat for 2 years , so i thought its time to service my engine , its a mariner 40hp model number 40 elo 6e9 L 431307, i have spent the last two days looking through the internet for the age of the outboard, and for a water pump kit , but i cant find any thing even close to this engine, i have looked at loads of pictures of 40hp kits for mariner engines , but nothing matches, im at my witts end can any one help me please i would be so greatfull for any info on this engine,

That serial number looks like a yamaha serial number,look on the engine for a welsh plug (aluminum about the size of a quarter) and see if you see a serial number there.

hi gerry thanks for the reply, how come the numbers on my engine dont match any data base or age related lists , i would love to now more about it

Tom;

Most of the databases available online only have the American or European built engines but there are a few that include the Japanese built engines. Yours is a Yamaha build according to the s/n. Even the Mercury parts site will not accept your s/n or an Australian built engine.

Do you have a service manual for yours?
