Re: Pleasure Boaters???

i am a pleasure boater! i run close to shore, like mark 42 said, cause thats where the scenery is. why would i want to put-put around and look at the center of a 50000 acre lake. nothing to see in the center but water. hey look honey, more water, and now were further from shore when we wanna swim or break down<br /><br />i live on the gulf of mexico, and i always stay within 1/4 mile from shore when we are out.

So far, it's been peaceful but like I said the slolum fishing boat course is getting trickier.<br /><br />I think you're thinking of Discovery Park near downtown Sacramento. I been going to Garcia Bend which about 10 miles south. It's still all about the same this time of year.

The topic brings up a good point- there should be mandatory education for boaters, just as there is for automobiles. And there needs to be more regulation. It's amazing the number of people who buy a boat, stock it with alcohol, then hit the lakes and rivers and scratch their heads wondering (as they fly by) what those signs mean that say 'No Wake'

"Today, when pulling out.....some jerks were fishing from boats all around the ramp....managed to snag one of their lines w/ my prop and the idiot gets po'ed at me! <br />Yells, cusses, etc...I flipped the moron the bird."<br /><br />Some peoples do this as the last resort thing and they are desperated to come up with fish since after the weight-in at tournament the fishes are usually released at the ramp and some of them will stay around the area. If someone is fishing close enough to the ramp to get his line wrap up in prop then he certainly deserved it.

These were a couple yokels in old tubs, and there were no tournaments (thankfully) that day.<br />Just some freaking morons in the way at the waters leading to the ramp.

Re: Pleasure Boaters???

It happens with me all the time. I can be out in the middle of my 45,000 acre lake trolling for some big fat lake trout, and it never fails. Some knothead in a 30 foot espress cruiser will blow by me not much more than 50 feet away. God forbid they could give me some room. Another thing I love is that while I am trolling, the next thing I know I have 4 other boats trolling right near me. Obviously inexperienced fisherpeople who think that because I am working this one area that this must be where the fish are. Little do they know, I'm just guessing as well. The other thing that happens that drives me nuts is when me and the better half would go on our summer sunday boat/swim fests. We always go to a protected cove area, drop anchor, and put up an orange flag to signify that people are in the water. What do the knothead people do? They drive their boats 20 feet from my boat. Bear in mind I can't swim, but I get in with a life jacket on because I am roasting my arse off and I want to be in the water, so you can imagine my joy when I have to ride the wakes of these morons. The rules clearly state you must give a boat with an orange flag thet is erected at least 100 feet distance when cruising by it, but these idiots don't care. I have actually stared, stunned in horror, as ski/wakeboard boats will start their runs directly at my boat with my non-swimming arse bobbing in the water next to it with the wife. They always panic turn at the last second, but that doesn't make me any happier. 45,000 acre lake, they all hang around me....
