have already posted about flooding problem but here goes...
1987 johnson 40hp wont start vro disabled ...engine keeps flooding..3 fuel inlets 1 to each carb and 1 that runs through to what i believe to be the automatic choke with a manual red toggle on it ..if i disconnect this pipe and blank off the ends it starts fine revs up idles everything seems ok ....does this mean the choke solanoid is stuck open although it starts fine from cold.......

Re: please help

Is the manual start red toggle in the right position? I believe it should point forward. If that's the case, then can you pull one of the fuel lines from the solenoid to a carburetor? Checking to see if its pumping fuel, when no wanted, would be a good check too. I suspect the solenoid could be serviced fairly easily... It's just too bad, at least on mine, that there is not more slack in the hoses to from the primer.

PS. Might be an easy check to pull the electrical connection to the solenoid too, just in case it's a switch problem (constant voltage to primer - though I always wonder if holding in the key results in a continuous pulse of fuel to the carbs?).

Re: please help

Pushing in the key when cranking or running will result in a continuous pulse of fuel to the carbs. Actually it's on the back side of the carbs going into the intake manifold.

Thank you. I've been wondering about that.
