I am new to the world of floating on top of the lakes. lol I recently bought a steury boat and was told it was like a 1967 or something. First I would like to know all the info on the boat i have. but of course i need to research but where to start? any help would be great. The metal plates on the boat are fading.. I also have a 65hp evinrude motor that came with the boat. I also would love to know all the info i can about the motor but where to start. The motor does have problem's and i rather know how to fix the problem that arise and fix myself rather then bring it in. I cant go over 10mph in my boat what the h**l... I got this boat cheap. I know I need to put money in it but i see this as my first boat and a fixer upper. I want to make this mint.. I have a 11 year old daughter that is getting into fishing and my GF too. I want this boat to fish with but also to use it for its speed. i want to water ski, knee board, and tube. I didnt get to injoy being on a boat when I was young and when I got too I knew I would want to keep doing it. I want my daughter to enjoy the water, fishing, and having fun skiing, knee boarding, tubing, but first step is too get the motor running at its peak performance. I need help. I dont know a thing about boat motors. Please help

Re: please help

hi, i am new to boating as well. as for as the info your looking for, you will just have to search for it and post some pics here, somebody will know just by looking at it. any fix ups you may have, you can learn all you will need to know here or on youtube. and the engine, i would'nt mess with it! take it to a shop who knows what they are doing, it will save you money and headaches in the end.

Re: please help

It sounds like your motor has a spun prop.

You can find repair manuals online for that motor, just do a google search for your motor and repair manual.

You get what you pay for when buying a boat, and sometimes a lot less than you paid for.

Re: please help

The guys around will be glad to help out but with a lot of problems its easer to work them out one thing at a time. The bet way is to start out slow with what information you have , like what type of boat length model and so on. When it comes to the motor also year and serial number. And lots and lots of pictures, no one but you can see what your looking at.

Re: please help

The only knowledge I have with boat motors is the expierance I've had with my 71 evinrude. My motor only went about 5mph at full throttle so I got a manual on it and just started replacing things cause the last guy knew even less about boats.
Anyway, long story short: I put the correct spark plugs in, adjusted the carb and now she runs just fine.

I agree with everything thats been said above me. Pics, serial/model numbers and manuals are a BIG help.
