I have a 1979 black Max. I was told to take out the Split fire Spark Plugs and put in factory. Is this true? will it really burn a piston? Please give advice.
I am not sure about your particular setup but I did burn a piston in a Seadoo jetski by running Splitfire plugs. The plugs worked great, I loved them, until. Most experts on this board will tell you to stick with factory specified plugs like Champion, etc. I would change the plugs if it were me just to be safe. Jeff
Yes. Changing plugs from what is spac'd is changing the temperatures in the cylinder. If you were to put a plug that fires too hot, it could very well put holes in the pistons. It is a game of "21" to switch to plugs which are not reccommended. In most cases tho, if it will cross reference directly, your chances of doing damage decrease....But they don't dissapear.
as long as we are talking plugs what about indexing plugs is there a performance gain.....know in my hot rods it makes a big difference......should side electrode face away from intake port like on auto? other little things that will help......learned on cars attention to detail will make a big difference......
go as fast as you dare.....speed = horsepower = cubic dollars
I don't know what splitfires will do to an outboard but i have seen (twice) what they will do to a Snowmobile engine. Also being two-strokes i would steer clear.

dave

------------------
no replacement for displacement!
I would stay away from splitfire plugs for the fact only that they have come apart and damaged many engines. The co. was hit with many, many lawsuits for this.
