I have a 1987 90 Mariner 3 Cyl. I was running it for a trip this week. I pulled to shore to adjust the shifter linkage due to not going all the way into reverse. From this point it has not run again. I did find a broken wire from the trigger. It is the wire that attaches to the bottom right screw on the switch box. I reconnected this wire, but still no fire. I have ohmed out teh trigger and get about 457 ohms on all three wires to the wire i replaced. I cannot decide if it is the trigger, stator, switchbox, regulator, or kill switch wiring. i have checked the kill switch and it opens and closes correctly checking with a meter. Please help to diagnose the issue if you have experience.

Re: Please help with no fire on 90 3cyl.

Update: Just checked Stator Red to Blue (low speed) checked open and Red to Ground checked good (hi speed). Trigger checked good for all three wires. I don't know how to check the kill switch at the motor. I think it is the black/yellow wire on the switchbox.

I must at this point think that I must replace the stator. If replacing the stator I will go ahead and replace the trigger since the fly wheel is already removed for both. Any more ideas are appreciated. Any ideas around pulling the fly wheel are appreciated.

Any feedback is appreciated.Ken

Why would you replace a good trigger. They seldom go bad. If you are serious It might fit my 70 3 cylinder and my wires are shot on it. Wanna donate it? The black and yellow wire is for the kill switch.

Thanks for the update on the kill switch. I just took this wire off, and still no fire. The trigger had a broken wire on it all the way up under the fly wheel is why i am going to replace with the stator.

Depending on which wire was broken a trigger on this model will not make all cylinders stop sparking unless it was the wht/blk wire as it is the common to the coils in trigger. A pur/brn/wht wire broken would just make that cylinder not fire.

Have the stator and trigger ordered to be here tomorrow. Plan on leaving Wednesday for the coast. Wish me luck>
