I would recommend picking up a Yamaha service/repair manual and read up on steps and tools needed to do the different things and then make up your mind if you would like to tackle it yourself or take it in to a good shop.
I have never had to take one to a shop so I do not know how much it would cost, but it also depends on if it is run in saltwater or fresh and if some of the bolts are stuck or corroded and end up breaking.
Have you looked at what all Yamaha recommends for servicing and how often?
