please help with 2009 yammi 150 stop pee and overheat issue

I have a 09 150 Yammi 4 stroke that stops peeing when at idle and the overheat alarm goes off. Seems to run fine when I open her up. Anyone got any ideas what could be causing this prob. and what I can do to solve it.

When was the last time the water pump was replaced?
They are a normal preventative maintenance item and Check thermostats and PRV while you are at it

I never have. The boat and motor have low hours so just regular maintenance performed. Maybe a stupid question but any idea of what this might cost to correct. I am pretty good at building houses but don't know squat about boat motors.

I would recommend picking up a Yamaha service/repair manual and read up on steps and tools needed to do the different things and then make up your mind if you would like to tackle it yourself or take it in to a good shop.

I have never had to take one to a shop so I do not know how much it would cost, but it also depends on if it is run in saltwater or fresh and if some of the bolts are stuck or corroded and end up breaking.

Have you looked at what all Yamaha recommends for servicing and how often?
