I just got my boat out of the shop. I spent about 700. dollars getting it fixed and tuned up. They said my battery was dead so i went straight to the store bought a battery and hit the lake. The boat started running pretty good so I starting increasing the speed. When I was at about 3/4 throttle it started stalling and than it would start doing ok. The voltage meter was showing about 10-11 volts. Anyway I thought a new battery is fully charged brand new?? I beached the boat checked the connections and let it idle for a bit and it started running good. As soon as I open it up full throttle it starts stalling and than it starts bareling running. I crep around the lake with it spitting and sputtering for a while and than it starts running good while runnning about 30 mph. I give it full throttle and it jumps up to 50 mph and than it starts stalling for a bit in and out and than back to barely running. I have the battery on the charger now but if you think it could be something else please help me i have spent way to much money on this boat. I want to take it out tomorrow so any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks Rusty

Time for a spark test, flywheel magnet check, may be loose or broke. check stator for melted expoy, burnt windings.

You may have two issues to deal with. Once the engine has run for 15-20 minutes, the voltage on the boat's voltmeter should creep up to around 13 volts-indicating the engine is charging normally. Your registered volts are low and may indicate the engine is not recharging properly. It is not unusual for the dash voltmeter to reed a little lower, so you may want to put a hand-held voltmeter directly on the battery and measure the voltage there while running. Possible you have a weak fuel pump. It may not be able to supply enough fuel to run it high rpm's. When the engine starts to stumble, have someone pump the fuel hose bulb repeatedly. This will force extra fuel into the carbs. If it runs fine at high rpm's while constantly hand priming, replace the pump.

charge your battery.
check your stator / voltage regulator. if any of them are out of spec don't run the engine - you will burn the stator; not a cheap fix, been there done that (not that easy to take out the flywheel and change it either).
if the regulator is bad it WILL burn your stator.
after you make sure voltage regulator is fine and stator is in specs you can go ahead and see if pumping the bulb fixes your issue. also, if the suspect is the pump i would run it on premix until you figure it out, some extra oil will cost you a set of fouled plugs, no oil might cost you an engine.

Re: Please Help me! 150 evinrude vro 1986

I called the mechanic and he said it was the power pack. I put a new one on and hit the lake. We did some knee boarding and tubing but I never did try and open it up just because It runs okay until I try and run it wide open. The boat run good the whole time we were playing in the water. Once we were ready to go in I was wanting to do a good test and open it up full throttle and see what it does. I started heading back to the dock opened it up full throttle and right off the bat it stalled and I barely made it to the bank. I was really low on fuel at that time. I got home and primed up the bulb and it pressured up. I put the rabbit ears on the foot and cranked up the motor. It ran few minutes and started to prime the bulb and it started pumping air. I don't if I was just losing prime or I still have a problem. I have a multimeter but im not sure how to test the stator. Please give me some advice. thanks

Okay I read around and seen where you can test the output of the stator. I have 1 yellow output putting out 9.vac and the other was 1.vac. Do I need a new stator or could it be that the wire has been burnt up on that one output? I am gonna go buy a socket to remove the flywheel and look at it.

Do you have an OMC manual? If not, that should be your first purchase. It has all of the testing procedures and specs that you are asking about. Get the original service manual and not a knock off like Clymer or Seloc. It would also have steps for removing the flywheel also, which can be tough. Bottom line, the manual has saved me a ton of time and money and the more you get into your motor, the more you will reference it. Just my $.02....sorry I can't help with the specific issue. I'm sure someone knows more about it...g/l

Thanks AB1 for the advice. I did get the flywheel off and yes it was a pain in the butt. The stator coils didnt look bad but where the yellow wires ties into the stator one looked like it had got to hot. (maybe)
Anyway to my understanding all the yellow wires do is recharge the battery.
The trigger is what powers the power packs and I think I can live without the battery being recharged for now if it won't mess anything else up.
I have spent about a grand so far in this motor this year and it's making me sick. I've got a new lower unit new shaft and of course the prop wouldn't fit the new lower unit and all they had was the stainless steel prop. On the way to the lake the bearings went out in my trailor so I got that fixed. It looks like im gonna have to buy a new tire for my trailor also.
So if I can limp my without it charging my battery I believe I will wait a while before i get a new stator. Thanks Rusty
