Hey all-I am in urgent need of quick, accurate answers...I am replacing the lower unit on my 1979 Evinrude 75 HP (The unit is cracked)--I have found someone who has a good 1977 Johnson 70 HP that is in good shape...Both gearhafts are the same so that is not a problem--Can anyone tell me if that lower unit will have any issues going onto my powerhead? Thanks in advance!!

P.S.-I am paying $275 for the lower unit, a water impeller kit, and a good prop--Is this a good deal at all or am I paying too much?

Re: Please help!! Lower Unit Conversion Question--!

This may not be factually correct, but I have a 1980, 70 hp Johnson & many friends /neighbors own the same only from 1975-90. The all lower units seem to be the same. It is my understanding that all the 3 cylinder motors used the samer lower unit & that it remained the same over many years. Why change a good idea.

Thanks for the reply--I think you are correct but I was just trying to confirm it for sure before I buy the lower unit...I have searched the internet over but am unable to find any helpful info...Anyone else know if this lower unit conversion would work?
