I have a 1992 Bayliner Capri with a 305 which I didn't winterize correctly and I had a cracked block. So I put a 350 block in the boat. The boat has an alpha 1 gen2 drive system. I had a friend pulling me skiing I dropped off because I was tired and when I did he made a pretty quick turn and you could hear the engine race up . It kindof sounded like he had shifted it into neutral and choked it and full throttled it. But he didn't do anything. When the boat wouldn't go it would just sit there and reb up. He turned the engine off and waited for me to swim to the boat. When I got in the boat it cranked right up . When I shifted it into gear it would barely go, but if you gave it throttle it would not move.So i lifted the top on the motor and the diveshaft would just spin when you throttled the boat not moving and there was smoke coming from the drive shaft. It would do this in forward and reverse. When I got home I pulled the drive there was oil in the lower unit it wasn't full but it
wasn't bone dry either. The gears looked fine. The gimbal bearing looks good.I can turn the shaft and the prop will turn and It will go in forward, reverse, and neutral and the prop does what its supposed to do. I did notice that on the shaft there is 2 orings well the one closest to the gimbal bearing is broke.
