I have a 1966 evinrude sportfour 60 hp, it will pull start but not all the time & it takes a bit of effort. After I pull start I can key start but not before i pull start first. It's not the key pin, and I changed the plugs. I'm not that smart when it comes to motors but I'm learning the hard way. Can someone please help?

Plugs should be Champion J4C or J6C plugs, gapped at .030. The J6C may improve performance.

You need to explain more in detail why the engine will not start with the key. Doesn't the electric starter engage? Does the engine turn over too slow? We need more detail.

The idle needle jets may be set too lean and you're getting what's known as a lean sneeze. Search the forum for Joe Reeves instructions on how to set these jets.
As far as starting you should pump the bulb until hard, choke it and it should fire up. Personally, I prime it with 3 or 4 squirts of fuel down each carb with a spray bottle and it fires up instantly. Pull starting is a muscular event that should be reserved for emergencies.
