Please Help. 4hp Johnson Seahorse

Hi there. I have a 4hp Johnson and im trying to find out the year. the model number is 4W77B.and the serial number is C23377 ;I was told the year is 1977 but i have looked up some pictures comparing them to my motor and mine looks alot newer. I also remeber when it recently got tuned up the guy said it is somewheres in the 1990's range. Any thoughts or ideas are welcome.

The model number of 4W77 is indeed a 1977 4hp Johnson.

Somebody pull a switcheroo on the I.D. plate to conceal a stolen motor?

Look the powerhead over closely for a small quarter sized core plug (looks like a small freeze out plug). That might also have a model and serial number on it. If so, what are they?
