Play in outdrive?

I can wiggle my outdrive about an inch both ways by hand without the steering wheel moving. Should it be tight or is it supposed to have some play? It's a volvopenta. The top part of the hinge where it meets the top part of the gear case looks loose. Its where the two allen head bolts are. Do I need a new shim or bearing or something? Any Ideas?

Volvos drives are a little sloppy.The puck that the two allen head screws go into usually shows only a small amount of play but you will see some. There are no shims but there are bushings at the tilt pins.

Thanks. <br /><br />It seemed to drive alright. At plane the steering was tight and felt great. But at slow speeds it seemed to to be real touchy. My friends' boats were the same (different makes). I just happened to notice the sloppyness when I changed the gear lube. Had me alittle worried. Thanks for easing my mind.
