Plastic Brake Lines - Whaddaya think about 'em?

I'm upgrading my boat trailer for saltwater use and would like to upgrade the zinc plated steel brake lines to something more corrosion resistant. I've heard about plastic brake lines, which would be advantageous for my particular set-up because of their greater flexibility. Has anyone had any experience with them? Where does one purchase them? I searched on google and could not find a retailer.

Re: Plastic Brake Lines - Whaddaya think about 'em?

I just bought a new boat (in May) for combo salt and fresh water use. The boat trailer came with plastic brake lines which promptly failed due to a hole in the line going between the axles. Don't know if it came pinched from shipping or a rock hit it. In any case, as I complained to the manufacturer, I found out that they put plastic lines on only the one year of trailers. The next year they went back to stainless lines. They sent me a complete stainless setup at no cost. Seems like the manufacturers have figures out that the extra cost for a steel system is small compared to listening to long time customers complain about brake line failure.

Your choice, but I sure didn't like mine. I have a complete set that I will send you free once I change mine out.

My '98 MagicTilt came with the plastic brake lines and they've worked fine so far. I have disc brakes on both axles. I like the fact that they don't rust like the steel lines.

I also have a trailer bought in 98, with plastic lines, no problems with the lines. Plenty of brake problems, but no line problems. ;)

There are also Stainless brake lines, which last much longer than the regular steel..

We use plastic lines on circle track stock cars al the time. As long as they don't continuesly rub on anything or lay on exhuast there have never beeen any problems.

I just replaced all mine and used stainless. It's a proven, long lasting solution. I don;t want to worry about my brakes failing for any reason - not when the results could be fatal.
