Re: Plasma or LCD

mthieme, my Panasonic rear projection TV had one, new Sony rear projected LCD TV doesn't. To be honest, I don't think they're even provided anymore but you're right. If you a lot of small kids, it used to save the screen the wear and tear. But, I don't think they're available anymore, at least not that I've seen

This is a good point when you have small kids or worse friends of small kids over your house. At least an LCD or plasma can be mounted a little higher up. My projection tv sits on the floor.

Years ago my Son cracked the lens in the top corner of my previous 45 inch Mitsubishi projection tv with a BB rifle he aimed at it! The crack was in the shape of a small spider web about the size of a 50 cent piece and luckily when the tv was on it would disappear. I checked on the price of a new screen and it was more than I paid for the tv originally!

Re: Plasma or LCD

Well, I had it narrowed down to two LED models.
I went looking at a few more stores the past two days.
This afternoon I resolved myself to a Philips 52" at BJs. They only had the floor model left. When I inquired, they said they would sell it but at no discount - and no remote, no manuals, etc. So that narrowed it down - the other was a 65" Sharp. On the way home, I stopped in Circuit City just to see what a Samsung LED DLP looked like. They had a floor model just back from being serviced and deeply discounted. It looked okay to me, not quite as good as the Philips but 50 times better than what I become accustomed to. It's also 67" inches. I can now sit back in my lazy-boy 22' feet away by the fireplace and watch TV.
thanks much for all the input.

Re: Plasma or LCD

I didn't read the previous 41 post, so here's my simple input.
the projection TV can be renewed considerably just by cleaning the projection tubes and the mirror's and the back of the screen, the easiest access is to take the screen off the front of the set and clean them instead of the access panel. the results can be quite stunning.

plasma consumes twice the electricity as lcd which is twice the cathode ray tube.

the finacial crisis will drop the price considerably by thanksgiving, and if shoping walmart, sanyo is the prefer vendor, walmart partner on the warantee, ask the electronic associate.
