I have a 16ft Grew with a 120hp omc and I am having problems getting it up on plain. I have to get my kids to sit in bow to plain out then they can move around. Any id4eas what my prob is? Would trim tabs help me plain out easier?

Re: plaining problems.

yeah, as discussed in previous threads, you put an upper drive unit on the boat with a different gear ratio.
now it's like a truck starting off in 2nd gear.

Ayuh,.... Ain't nothin's gonna fix that,... 'cept more horsepower, aka; Bigger motor, or the Right gear ratio...

Mine is all original, and I usually have passengers sit up front anyway to get a faster plane. I thought that was just how it goes.

Re: plaining problems.

If I get a complete 400 series outdrive would that help or does it have to be a 120?

Re: plaining problems.

Maybe a 4 blade, overall speed will be reduced, but will get you up on plane quicker.. drop 2 inches of pitch from 3 blade

never seen a 4 blade for that drive. Propco are the only guys making any props for them and they're all 3 blade afaik.

ok thanx guys. As long as I can still pull the kids. I'm not trying to win any races. Just so happen I need to replace prop anywy because I hit a rock last weekend at idle speed and chewed the blades.

Sounds like you need a prop anyway, but otherwise just keep the kids in the front and don't worry about it (unless you're driving a wheelie all the way down the lake, lol).

Ok I will get a prop with less pitch and throw some weight up front and see how it goes. Meanwhile keeping my eyes open for the proper outdrive.
I really appreciate all the help.

Thanx Howard. I only hope they still have it at end of month when I have some money. I am single father of 2 young boys with limited income. One of my boys has a disability and is hard to deal with. Is mostly for him that I want to get this boat running proper. No help from mom. If this outdrive still available I will def pick it up.
