Placement of new deck and transom

Before I set my stringers I would like to know if I could place my deck on top of the existing fiberglass shelf which is around the perimeter of the boat. The original decking was 1/2" plywood, therefore I would like to place 8" rips under the fiberglass lip at 1' intervalls starting from the bow and working my way towards the transom securing with stainless screws filling in between with 1/2' rigid styro than decking on top of that with 5/8" exterior ply and glass as per normal procedures. Transom---Do I set my new transom in a bed of pl adhesive or does it set in a bed of resin? When I removed it there was about 3/4" of resin between the hull and bottom of transom. In the pix if you look at the transom both sides have a fiberglass edge(light blue) which the transom set in. Now that the transom is removed can I leave those two wings in place slip the new transom between them and fiberglass over them again according to procedure or do they have to come out along with those two areas filled with foam which I do not know what they are called
Ps : Interior of side of transom was not glassed just painted.
Peace Out

Plaz,

Your question about the deck is confusing. Could you restate it a different way. I am not picturing the final product and all the layers.

As far as your transom goes you could do it the way you stated as long as the existing fill is still attached well. I would recommend once the transom is in place to go over the edges with a PB mix and create a nice fillet so that your glass will lay nice along the inside corner with no sharp turns or air pockets. You will have to grind down the old some to make a good surface for adhesion.

Greg,
Ok a little long winded on the decking issue. what I want to do is set my new decking on top of the existing fiberglass lip around the perimeter of the boat, you can see it on the pix. I just want to use 1/2" ply underneath for added support to hull. Better! PS: I saw it on E How, How to replace a floor.
Thanks, Peace Out, Plaz

Plaz,

Okay gotcha! Sounds okay..just watch your added weight. I suggest using PL to adhere everything together to create essentially one solid floor and prevent minor slippage and flexing between the layers. Good luck and keep us posted with pics.

Greg,
I think the added weight will be about 8-10lbs. The addional plywood is only going where the original decking touched the hull. Most likey there will be no more than 3 people in the boat at any time. I would like to put more pix on but can't figure out how, so my 5 at a time will have to do for now. Will keep posted
Thanks Plaz, Kielbasy Power.
