Pitot problem

I installed a new speedometer , pick up, and tubing. I checked it with air and it worked great. I then took it out on the water and got nothing. i then brought the boat home and checked it again with air and it worked just fine. The pickup is at the bottom of the transom. ?????????? Very confused. please help.

it needs to be where it gets and undisturbed water flow. away from strakes, and away from prop wash.

Ok thats what I thought. But I really cant think of a good spot to put it. any suggestion? the transom is about 6' wide or should it be some where other then the transom?

Where exactly is it currently mounted and how? As TD said, it must be in clean water. When you checked it with air, were you blowing on the pickup or just the tubing?
