Pin Holes in Hull

HI gents. I am working on my boat when I noticed a few small pin holes in the hull that was leaking a tiny drop of water. The water was no bigger than a pin head big. I am in the process of sanding the old anti fouling and repainting. Does this mean I need to re gelcoat the whole hull or will the new anti fouling fix the problem. There is not a lot of these holes maybe 8 or 9. Any suggestions on what this might be. Thanks in advance.

I am not a hull expert but I suggest that you do some research on what is called blisters.

If the water is coming from the anti-fouling paint, it maybe from air bubbles that were trapped when the paint was applied.

If it is coming from the sanded gelcoat, and is a "brownish color" then you have water behind the gel coat.

I don't know much about blisters at all...sorry. But I am curious. Let us know how it turns out!

First of all thanks to those who have responded. The amount of expertise here is overwhelming and the fact that you are willing to help a stranger is much appreciated. After looking at it again I think it might be some small blisters. I sanded down one of the wet spots and noticed a tiny hole once I got through some of the paint. Is this something that should be fixed spot by spot or should I be looking at doing more to the whole hull?

barbender;

it's hard to say exactly without seeing your hull firsthand, but if it is osmotic blistering you are going to have to grind them out before repainting your hull.

also, you are going to need a moisture meter to tell you when your hull is dry enough to paint.

you'll want to talk to someone who knows alot more about it than me, however.
