Re: Pin hole in foot, can it be fixed?

This one got above my head, had to bring it in. So far, I've been told the bearings look good. I am having the shop put a seal kit in the lower unit, fix the hole and pressure test. I will post again when I get more info from the shop. Thanks for the help!

OK.So far you've given us the answer to all the questions we haven't asked. It seems you now have the LU apart so was there water in the oil.Is the hole above or below the seal. What's the model. Now you've taken it to some shop that's going to cost you an arm and a leg and we still don't know what's wrong.I don't know about anyone else but I'm biting my nails with frustration here.LOL

to bad air pressure wasn't pumped into that hole.... the air would have had to come out somewhere or build up as internal pressure

either from within the gearcase sealed area with its oil bubling out ...or within some void somewhere in the lower unit with its air flush out in some inoffensive crevice....indicative of a drain hole man made during or after manufactring

To bad the G/C wasn't pressure tested before tearing it down as it could have told a lot. O'well .

You wont get back to the dock as the upper bearing has let go in gearcase. Thats why housing has pushed out and oozing anlong with dimple below it. Time to drop it and inspect.

I also see several bulges around the hole , a roller has let lose.

As stated above ... we have answers to questions that were not asked, and asked questions were not answered.

I just read your post about the hole in the lower unite you show in the pictures. I have a 1993 Johnson 60 that has the same hole and it is a drain hole. Next time you see a 70 or 60 hp. Johnson check it out and you will find the same drain hole in them. I had to go see the Mech. i use today and told him about the hole we are talking about and saw no less then four other lower unites off of 70 and 60 hp. Johnsons. That hole is a drain hole and should be there.
