Anybody into photography? Digital or film? SLR or p&s? Got any pictures you want to share? Any cameras you own or would like to own?
I currently have an Olympus e500 dSLR, a Fuji S7000 "prosumer," and a canon s400 p&s.
The Olympus is relatively new to me and I'm still getting to learn that particular camera.
I bought the Fuji s7000 as an upgrade to a Fuji s602. What a disappointment. Although the s7000 has more megapixels, its overall performance is not equal to that of the s602. Specifically, dynamic range is not as broad and it is a little week on the contrast. That's why I upgraded again to the dSLR.
The Canon s400 is a few years old now, but for a camera that fits in my pocket, it sure takes nice snap shots.
I have a site at http://www.pbase.com/gchandler with some of my work from the s602. I suppose eventually I need to update it with some stuff from my s7000 and the new Olympus.

Re: Photography

I was once in a photography class, where we had a to have an all manual SLR.......then we had to develop our own film and make our own prints. I dont have any digital copies of anything I made, otherwise I would show them. I think the camera was a Dakota 200 or something similar to that.

As far as digital cameras go I have a Kodak C330, not the greatest but it gets what I need done. In my architecture studio we have a Canon 8mp camera. Its insane.

I like the pics rubberfrog......they are really awesome.

Re: Photography

I use a Canon EOS 1DS at work for digital photography of artwork and product. I wish I could afford one of these for myself. It's really sweet. It cost the company 5 grand so they're not too keen on me borrowing it. Got an old EOS Rebel SLR at home that is our primary camera. I'd like a digital but I'm spoiled on the 1DS. :( It came with a nice application to convert the RAW files that also shows all of the camera settings for each pic. It's a wonderful learning tool.

Every so often I get an email from Canon with a file designed to update the camera's firmware. Crazy.

-We've come a long way from limelight.

spots

-nice shots BTW

Re: Photography

I have a cannon ae1 slr with 3 different lenses. took alot of pictures through the years. Went into the digital world with a kodak. I like the idea of instant pics. I can't come up with the bucks right now for one with more pixels so I find the cannon does a little better job. Also got a scanner and put every picture I could find on discs. What a great way to preserve pics. , gave all the kids a copy. I also like the photo shop for re touching up old pics. or just using different effects on them. Looking for a better program, if ya know of any let me know. Great job on yur pictures, you are truly an artist. :)

Re: Photography

some nice pics rubber. You have a great eye for real nice shots. I like them.

I started in High School, as the yearbook sports editor, took, developed and enlarged my own shots. Been hooked ever since.
Took physics of light in college (with numerous photo labs), (didn't teach me how to spell) but learned a lot about light and critical photgraphy.

Your stuff is all outdoors, and that is the hardest for lighting, ect. These were taken with digital, which I am just getting into. Have a Nikon coolpics 900 or something. I love the pictures but I need to upgrade to the faster model. Sports shots don't work well with the delay.

I have many cameras, my first was a manual minolta which i upgraded to an auto/manual Minolta, got a rebel 2000, now have a sony cybershot (7 mega pix or something) (which is actually better than my nikon) and my Nikon 5.7 meg.

I still have them all and won't give any up. I love the challange of the minolta manual. I have numerous pictures sitting in local banks and other business's that I have enlarged, framed and sold, taken by my old Minolta (I do have some great lenses though) to help the Minolta and Cannon. I also have done many bridal shots and other work by request.

I would love to show my work, but most of it is film. Heaven help me, but I have tried many times to transfer some of my digital work here, but not smart enough to do it.

If I can offer one point, you need to learn the rule of thirds, looks like you have the eye, but need to learn to frame shots a little better, but I am in no way your superior. Keep up your shooting, It can be a great hobby.

Spud

Re: Photography

Imaginary lines are drawn dividing the image into thirds both horizontally and vertically. You place important elements of your composition where these lines intersect.

As well as using the intersections you can arrange areas into bands occupying a third or place things along the imaginary lines.

Good places to put things; third of the way up, third of the way in from the left , you get the idea. Duff places to put things; right in the middle, right at the top, right at the bottom, away in the corner.

Using the Rule of Thirds helps produce nicely balanced easy on the eye pictures. Also, as you have to position things relative to the edges of the frame it helps get rid of ' tiny subject surrounded by vast empty space' syndrome.
One last thing about the Rule of Thirds for the time being. Once you have got the hang of the Rule of Thirds you will very quickly want to break it ! This is fine. As I said earlier these 'rules' are best used as guidelines and if you can create a better image by bending or ignoring rules then fire away.

The Rule of Thirds is fairly structured but there are a great many methods you can employ which rely on your ability to 'see' things and incorporate them into your composition.

Reel
dude, ya I think ya got it, but the Rule of thirds, is a spirit of the law, not a letter of the law rule.

You just need to play with the rule, It can make a huge difference in some shots.

If I can get 1 good pic on a whole role of film, I am still in the game.
Spud

Here's one I took the day after Thanksgiving. The colored ripples look more like a painting:

If there is one thing I have learned about photography it is to use the early and late light. Makes a huge difference. My first camera was a 35mm Cannon A1 and I learned a lot. It seems I really only document family stuff, vacations etc. anymore . . .

You can poke around here if you want. This is where I keep the pics I post etc. I haven't spent anytime making it into an album.

Quietcat's pics

Last Thanksgiving, guess which one is me.
