petcocks leaking water

Hi, I just bought a 1995 wellcraft with a volvo 3.0. it was winterized and had the petcocks out. i put them back in and ran water throught the motor and the petcock leaked water. Is this a problem?

Take 'em out, 'n clean the threads,....
