Ford 302. Pertronix igniter 2. Billet dizzy for the 302. Plug and play so they say. Issue is it came with silver springs. Here is a pic of the different curves. I'm thinking it should have black. I dunno

It's sluggish and doesn't seem to have the power in lower rpm for getting on to plane. It's weird because after I get it onto plane and get were I'm going.( half hour run).it works better. Would changing those springs give me faster full advance or

Yes the copper would start the advance earlier in the rpm range. Also need to check total advance but I assume that is limited the same regardless of what spring is used to change how fast it comes in. You can try it but also pay attention to total advance to make sure it does exceed the factory total or what ever your engine builder may have given you. At first glance being all in at 2000 rpm seems early , again not sure what the engine should have. You can always try and see but keep an ear out for detonation.

It wouldn't explain different performance once it is good and hot. Would think that is a temp or carburation issue, basically not running well cold ...

I changed that carb out with a warranty carb. Fuel is clean...mid grade octane. Not sure what else to try.

Ayuh,.....What do the spark plug colors say,..??

Richen it up, til ya get darker colors,....
If I remember right, the plugs looked awfully clean, which might be a lean condition, which yer symptoms kinda says it is,....

The screws only adjust idle mixture.
running on main jets is a function of jet orifice size at wot power valve will richen it more . Do you know what they put in it and how that compares to what was factory for the 302? not saying this is what happened with your carb but at times when carbs go to the bigger rebuilders they get mix and match of parts.
They plugs do look a touch lean but unless you are running at the speed u have the issue at then immediately cut it off and jank a plug, you are getting what it was last running at which is idle to the trailer…

these plugs are out of my gm 5.0, from a couple years ago but i havent change my tune , this summer on the AFR meter i was a .5-.75 afr rich . The black ring around base of plug threads gives it away.

what ever jets you have in i would go up a step or two. So if you had .61 s in there go up to 63 or 65. Run it for a bit.

was fighting what i thought was a lean spot when nailing it. With the afr meter i saw it go way lean 18:1 and leaner, for a bit then it would go way rich. By seat of pants i went richer on jetting. the linkage for the accelerator pump had some slop. I had to bend the linkage rod a tad longer to keep the slack out of it… that delay in going way lean when getting on plan lasted longer for engine to recover and get into a good afr ratio.

Pic in post 10 does look a bit lean, especially for a ford. Not horrible for 3 hrs run tho

I forget, is a Rochester 2 bbl? Could maybe use bigger jets as asked earlier

Manual 2 or 3 depending on vintage should have proper jet size, tune up specs, timing curve, etc

I have messaged autoline about the jets in this carb. My book doesn't show jet sizes unfortunately. So I'll see what they say and if the have bigger jets I will order a few different sizes and go from there I guess
