Re: Perplexing compression numbers

Hi all,

I'm back, much to Don S' chagrin.
Don S I got a merc manual so no more pickin on me ;). That's another post.
I have recently found that using a "click" style torque wrench while listening to music at volume is not a good idea. So I broke one and stretched another rocker arm bolt. OK Don, have at 'er. I have learned my lesson. Can I replace these with another grade8 bolt with a washer or do I need the factory style cap bolts? I have the bolt/washer combo in now (torqued to MERC specs and retorqued). Under careful scrutiny they work well at 1300rpm on muffs but I am concerned about high rpm on the water. The nearest specialty fastener retailer is 100kms away.
One other question. How do I clean the rocker arms of residual rust? Do I polish with a dremel or soak them in muriatic? I am concerned that muriatic will etch the rocker arm mating surface where it contacts the fulcrum.

Thanx,
Doug

I have been informed that rocker arm bolts from a Ford dealer for a 460 are the same. True for marine use?

Thanx,
Doug

Your engine is a Ford 460 head on a nightmare Mercruiser designed block.
