Quick question I am redoing this boat I don't know much about it except its a rolled gunnel boat. It's probably not worth fixing but I am doing it as a learning tool. Anyways I would like to put a permanent gas tank inside the boat. Problem being there is not enough room under the deck. My question is can I put a permanent tank above deck but underneath of a seat? If someone has any input even if its a redirect to another forum let me know. Couldn't find an answer anywhere. Thanks

Re: Permanent Gas tank question

Hi janco126. You can put a tank almost anywhere, but I wouldn't put it under someone as a seat for safety as well as performance reasons. Many people put tanks on the bow, or in the rear near the motor depending where they need weight. How big is the boat and tank you want to install? Have you ever had the boat on the water to see where you might need weight the most? You may want to use an off the shelf tank and simply mount/strap into a sturdy position so that you can remove or replace it with ease should the need arise. Search the forum and you'll find tons of threads on all sorts of fuel cell set ups.

Re: Permanent Gas tank question

The boat is 17 feet and i would like to install a mueller 12 gallon tank. The boat has been sitting in my backyard for years so it has not been out on the water. I have been searching through threads and found that many people have different opinions on as where to put it. I thought i'd be safe and put it in the center of the boat right in front of the console. From what I have read this seems to be the most preferable place but I could be wrong.

Putting it in front of the console centered provides you with more weight to the bow, which can be good, but as you said, it's a matter of preference. Have you considered getting port/starboard tanks? There are several different companies that can make a tank to your specs if you wanted to measure it out and see.
I'm definately with KFA4303 on this one, don't put it under a seat, just inviting bad juju to happen IMHO.
