I'm going with Snow White, roll and tip. How many coats do you think it will take to get a good finish? I'm going to buy the paint 1st thing Sat. morning. At $60/gal. I don't want to buy too much, but I don't want to be short either. I'd like to do it with 2 coats, but I know whatever it takes has nothing to do with what I want.

I would think the can label will tell you how many coats. I know several Interlux products do.
But I would bet 2 coats will not quite do it.

4-5 get it to a thick milk like flow, If you were to roll and roll it..:p that boat would take about 15 mins to do. On a more serious note DO NOT try to get a heavy coverage, you will get solvent entrapment if you get uniform coverage in two coat's.....That is she will start bubbling in about 4-6 months right out of the blue...that's the solvent's trying to escape but the outer film will not let it out.

She will take two quarts..take your time the more you paint with it the better the results..you could very well get a 2000 dollar job for about 120.00 ...;)

Make the transom the last area to cover.

At $60/gal.

typo i'm assuming, that would be a steal!

don't forget all the other stuff, thinning agents, fiberglass wash, etc...i've never been able to just order the paint when using interlux....no complaints with the results though

i've put a first coat on some aluminum i'm painting...wakeboard tower/bimini. takes alot more prep than fiberglass but the results are very encouraging after just the first coat.

you'll def want at least 2 coats to really get the most out of the paint.

Oops, I meant $60/quart. Yea that WOULD be a steal.:D

I'm going to buy 2 quarts. I will mix 1/2 quart for my 1st coat and see how far it goes. I'll paint the sides first, then the transom, then the bottom. If 1/2 quart won't give me a full coat, at least I'll have the visible parts coated.

According to the documentation, the paint goes further than the primer. I don't have the exact square ft. numbers in front of me but it was something like 450 and 500 and something. When I mix a quart of primer, I still have some left. Today, I will do another primer coat and measure how much I have left over.

I already have some 2333N thinner from when I bought the primer. I'm not sure if I will need to use it in the paint since the temps have cooled.

So it's 3rd coat of primer tonight. Final sanding Thursday and Friday night. Then up before daylight on Sat. and drive to Atlanta to get the paint. I should be back home by 10AM to start painting. One coat Sat. One Coat Sun.

That's the plan anyway.

If that's not enough paint I will have to take time off work to get more paint and do more coats. Waiting till the next weekend will put me past the max overcoat time per their docs.
